The only boaty programs I've seen on satellite are Dream Boats (not really interesting for Motor Boaters) and Sail TV which is more about whats on land at the ports rather than about the boats.

I bought a few videos at Southampton and, to be honest, I wish I had saved my money. One of them has quarter of an hour of some bloke entering figures into his Decca system! I got the idea after the first 15 seconds!

Have you seen the home-made video of a trip around (every single sodding bit of) chichester harbour, running time 2hours?

Channel 4

As I mention further down this thingy, Channel 4 have Honda Formula 4 stroke at 11:00am Saturday. They were running Class 1 at 7:30am Saturdays, but that's finished for this year.

As I mentioned before. They're now busy transmitting the Football stuff for the brain dead creatures. One can only hope that the "comunal bath bandits" make their strike last all season. It could mean that the "non football lovers" could get the programs that their majority position deserves. After all even fishing has a greater following than football.

Football Yawn Yawn Zzzzzzzz

I have got an Idea,if they concreted over all football pitches they could turn them into something usefull like carparks, nuclear waste sites, caravan sites, somewhere to dump cars/bedsteads or better still loads of cheap hardstanding for people with a sense of proportion to put the boat on for scubbing down etc.IMHO.

Re: i blame howards way!!

i used to watch it my youth for the 5 mins sailing action (pre-motor boat enlightenment!). all the people were a bit (big bit!!!) posh.
never heard the line "no the kids can't have any food today, as the new vhf is more important!"
or would that be to true to real life?????
maybe i am completely wrong (sheltered life in north of scotland and all that) and every body in the south has a big house, flash car, designer wardrobe????

Ive got it..

Boat Front
Lawrence Llewelyn-Bowen does up a Sunseeker in moorish style with the big bra-less bint putting in a water feature. Owner returns, thrilled.

Marina neighbours from hell
Fly on the wall documentary about 3:am Eberspacher usage, excessive playing of the Birdy song and mysterious pontoon dog poo.

Flag wars
Docu-soap detailing the endless argument between hundreds of boaters about the merits and behaviour of different boaters according to the colour of the flag they carry. Probable 200 episode series. Essentially a parody of human tribalism.

Re: So lets do something about it!

Let's get some ideas of what boaty programmes you want to see and then we'll pass them on to comm editors at C4 and BBC2.

Easy

Probably

Re: Channel 4

I know good wannit.

I thought the commentry was good. At one point a boat lept way in the air came down with one hell of a wallop, commentator says 'ooh I bet that hurt'. Can sympathise with that!

Re: Boats on the Tv

Why not something along the lines of boating top gear>different types of boats/ bit of history of boat makes.Different sorts of Rivers /parts of sea coast/posh expensive poncy solent type marinas vs grubby boat yard.Natural history side of things.Boaters prob care more about state of envionment and pollution than most.
Bloddy ell we are supposed to be a maritine nation. Why do we still insist on viewing rivers as somewhere to dump shopping trolleys.AAAAAnd whats more why are the builders of those poxy new houses built along side the water allowed to prevent river access to the public.

Re: Boats on the Tv

What a good idea, Why not write to Beeb/ITV/Ch4/Ch5.

Where I live in Oxfordshire we have a local TV station, Six TV The Oxford Channel (slogan 'are you getting enough six'). They often run boaty things on the Thames and Oxford Canal with...Shhhh don't let Byron hear, Narrow boats.

Re: i blame howards way!!

TOp Gear Waterworld was pretty good. Good mix of stuff from J Class yacht "Endevour" down through Sunseekery stuff, Batboats even a homemade submarine! They've never repeated the formula though so maybe it didn't get enough viewers. Pity.
