Went down to boat to do minor fiddling.
No water!!!!! .....deafening silence from pump on blimming hot day.
Grumble Grumble....%$^£&.
Go home, search thorough all boat wiring and plumming documents and spend half night downloading
"1001 ways your 30 year old Shureflow can crap out" and almost certainly require new one.

Back down to boat in sweltering heat and proceed to dismantle most of lazerette , then proceed to struggle to remove securing bolts and get pump somewhere you can actually get at it.
Spend an hour dismantling, checking voltages and filters, still no joy, but we do have volts ?
Sense of humour wearing very thin indeed, what on earth wrong, its very simple piece of kit,a pump activated by a pressure switch, open the tap pressure drops, pump, pumps.

All at once, years of experience suddenly come into play, it seems obvious now of course...
Thump it with a hammer.

Pump instantly bursts into life .

I'm fairly disappointed by this.
Looking up to you, as a boating guru, mentor and source of much needed expert advice over the last couple of years I'm amazed that you could make such a simple mistake.
Always hammer first, then test connections etc, surely?

This is a very fine tool kit, everything you need to carry out any task from micro electronic engineering to grade A encouragement works:

I had a cortina once that would only start if you first hit the starter motor with a hammer. Used it for months like that. Not sure whether plod would have accepted the explanation for having a hammer in the car if pulled over, but luckily it never happened.

At some future date fully expect to be able to patiently consider the symptoms being displayed by any faulty piece of kit, ruthlessly diagnose the problem, consider it through in some length, pondering the possible alternative methods of rectifying the fault, without first losing my rag and them sinking into a deep depression requiring an urgent visit to the club bar.
Then having to sit through 12 people giving 13 versions of how fix the problem, all of which are probably wrong and only make matters worse. !

Always cheer myself up with the though that could have ended up with a "36". :)
