Why is this so cheap?

I just bought an avon 4 man dinghy in good order for £70 - have seen the redseals go for £250 in mint condition.

So why is this huge avon with rigid floor and trailer only £200?

Ebay item number 131230590618

I have no link to the advert or boat or seller, but I saw it when I was looking for my 4 man dinghy.

It sold for £300 and was then relisted.

Is there something to avoid with these? Because to me it looks like a bargain with the trailer too.

Fair enough that a 40hp Mariner will cost about £500, but then it would be an awesome boat - or am I missing something (I note the repair needed, but I have repaired hypalon a lot before and it is easy to do a good repair).

Where do you get the £200 from? It's an auction with a day left, could go for anything.

If it does go cheap, I'd put it down to:

- Got a rip in the front
- Looks mucky
- Illiterate seller (could be a hassle to deal with)
- "Deflated to fit in the garage, holds air as far as I know" possibly meaning "I know it leaks, don't want to admit it, can't quite stomach a bare-faced lie"

From the fact that it previously sold for £300 and also that the current high bidder had negative feedback (and he bid on the boat the first time) so I am guessing he is a shill bidder.

Also cross referenced with the fact that this one sold for £385 WITH an engine and needed no repairs. Wish I had seen the advert before it ended.

To me that looked like a super buy. I 'd love one. Can't figure out why they seem so cheap.

Yep, went for £102. Low price as I predicted.

Either I am missing something about these boats - a good one sold with 40hp mariner for £385 or these were just bargains.

If good enough for the army and takes 12 people and has a trailer, seems like a lot of fun for not a lot of money.

You have hit the nail on the head, its a huge boat but still only an inflatable. Avons of that era are a bit 'floppy' for my liking and one this size will behave more like a kids paddling pool than a boat, especially if you bolt twin 40's on it

The joy of an inflatable is the ease with which you can store it, folding this one up is going to be a 2 man job and to lift it probably 4.

That combined with the damage, rubbish advert and bottomless pit that could be the trailer will always keep prices down.
