Why is it

That when I start my claped out old 15hp 2 stroke outboard with the key she coughes , splutters , backfires and then runs for a bit and dies but if I pull start her she fires up and runs sweet ?
Something to do with the start up power or is it a case of that's how it is with 2 strokes .

the quicker you spin the flywheel up help tremendously on a cold engine, particularly if she hasn't been run for a while. The engine will feel tight mainly caused by the cold oil clinging to the bores and needs a helping hand.
