Having recently discovered this informative and VVVV funny set of forums I would like to know what most or all the abrev's- mean.
Can any old hands help?

A BOF, who is also a PITA, not a million miles from this post, might point out abbreviation is an even longer word.

But, hey, WTF, IAALOOB, anyway...

Welcome!

From the link:

YMMV = Your milage may vary! .... WTF? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

It means "your experience may be different from mine". E.g. "I find that a single snarkling of spraggot oil stops my trunnions from remasculating their wennelling sprockets for a whole season. YMMV."

Starting with IMHO!

[/ QUOTE ] IMHO started life as a simple oxymoron (i.e. users of it have no idea what humility is). It's moved on from that usage to conveying the ironic - either sarcastically (as in "my opinion has more validity than yours, because at least I recognize it's an opinion"), or in a misguided attempt to make a posting seem less pompous than it actually is, imtho (in my truly humble opinion).

It has been said that when a lawyer says, "With respect", he means, "I disagree";
when he says, "With great respect", he means, "You're talking through your hat";
and when he says, "With the greatest possible respect", he means, "You've gone off your head".

WTF (When not what) did RTFM become RTFI?

Possibly when, in pursuit of economy, suppliers chose to cease providing a proper M and substituted it with - abbreviated - I instead. They also save on proofreading. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
