Why I like ROBOS

Its not just the Thames you know.

that icon of education called Cambridge spend hours on the Ouse.
When i used to stop they didnt even bother to acknowledge.

Sad really as they usually become the leaders in politics and industry

I once had a confrontation with a robo, barsteward was on the wrong side of the river as he just moved into my path.

Went over to him, and shouted 'your supposed to move to the right side of the river'

he said 'i just did, whats wrong with ya'

Dozy barssteward didnt remember he faces the wrong way! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif This was the rowing club coach too!

Needless to say, the next time i saw him, i opened the throttle and drenched him! Always get my way in the end!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

One stopped for a rest outside our flat and a Coot ran up his oar, or paddle or scull or whatever they call those antedeluvian methods of propulsion and went for him in right royal order. I'm thinking of carrying a cage full of Coots just in case.

Sooner or later they (ROBOS) get their come uppance. A couple of Sundays ago just below Henley on Thames two such units were approaching each other. Both going at a fair lick and - guess what? Yup, They collided and for quite a few minutes were sucking their wounds.
The coach on the river bank - after the event was heard to say "watch that other boat"!!

There was some sort of rowing regatta on at Marlow on Monday though, usual thing they block off 2/3rds of the river for them to race along then proceed to practise two abreast on the narrow section of river that all other traffic is using. Saw one boat have to cut into the race course ahead of the racers to get out of the way of those practising who weren't watching where they were going.

I did see one crash into the EA regatta board that was put out to mark the rowers course - and I bet they still complained it should have got out of their way! (Almost fell of my chair laughing at them.

Don't think you'd be allowed to introduce rowing as a sport if it had been invented today - travelling at 20-30mph backwards along a river with lots of other traffic around in something that can be sunk by a wave of only a couple of inches height? Health and Safety do-gooders would never allow it.
