Its bleedin' obvious innit? You've already paid thru the nose for your home berth so why pay loads of money for another one.

So do not use other berths, a beth is only essential when you are away from the boat for long periods of time.

Anchor, take a cheaper buoy etc... pop into berths for fuel, water and shopping. Most marinas seem relaxed if you buy some fuel off them to let you in for an hour or two FOC to get some food etc...

Agree about the work, time off balance, but going further afield is great, we would love to do the Scilly's one year Haydn, they look amazing, reckon we need three weeks to do them properly from the Solent, hoping next season.

For us it is a time thing. We would love to be able to just up sticks and go but work funds the boat. We spend every weekend on the boat regardless of the weather, if the weather looks good we go out if not we stay on our home berth. We take our holidays aboard and really enjoy it but always come back wishing we had more time to spend on the boat.

Expense of zanother berth and in our case we dont like any other marina in the area. Mind you if I was based in Conwy I would'nt want to come back very quickly either.

In some caases it is also the social side of the marina, ie get back to sailing club to bragg about the size and number of fish caught over a beeer or ten.
