Why can\'t internet chandlers..........

get their act together ?

Ordered an item from Compass24 back in November with a November delivery date. Date has since become early Dec, mid Dec and today have been told perhaps January 2003 !

Little wonder they all go out of business - they deserve to.

Compass is worse than most. Three times I've placed orders with them, and each time I've ended up cancelling the order as its taken so long to arrive.

The best I've come across, though they mainly do rigging stuff, is Jimmy Geen Marine- free postage, prompt delivery, good quality products and they're also very helpful if you phone them with a stupid question.

Try Seamark Nunn for excellent service

These guys are brilliant. When their courier screwed up they taxied (at their own loss) the stuff up to meet my deadline - I was going to my boat in France the following morning!

All the correct stuff arrived, and I didn't get a note saying 'Your all essential life jacket that you need for your holiday will be following later as we do not currently carry it in stock (although we've taken your money)

Thanks for the great service - well recommended

Re: Please don\'t tar us all with the same brush!!!

we are not all as bad as Compass24! We try to have all products on our site available within 7 days at worst. Usually it is delivered in 1-2 working days depending on time of day the order is placed. Occasionally it goes a bit longer that if we are out of stock of particular items.

BUT one thing you should all be aware of is that any company that charges you credit card before having your goods ready for dispatch is invariably in breach of their credit card merchanting aggreement with their bank, unless you have specifically authorised a deposit. The banks will only make an issue of this if YOU compalin to your card provider. It is not right that the supplier and their bank has the use of your money and needs to be stopped. I think you might find laws are being broken as well.

Our online shop has been running for 2 years now and is continuing to grow, whilst remaining competitive, and dare I say, profitable. We will not be going bust, nor are we for sale!

As with Jimmy Green, we specialise in one specific product area, rather than trying to badly cover them all. All I can suggest is that stick to the specialised sites/companies and you will probably have less hassle and get the product support you want.

Well I don't even want to say Compass 24 are bad without knowing the circumstances. Often it's the supplier who isn't coming up with the goods and Compass is not the only store not to have in stock what they advertise. B&Q is another, in fact all big stores have available for sale items they don't have room to hold in stock.

For our part we have a tiny inventory and a policy of holding it in stock, I have also made a point of not buying in to order, it's uneconomic and too time consuming. My niche bit is to try and offer best prices and fast service by buying a small inventory in volume, but I wouldn't jump on the bandwagon of damning my competitors without the opportunity to hear their side.
