Brrr! As the weather gets colder most leisure sailors hang up their wet gear, until the warm winds return.

So who is still sailing, racing or have any interesting Winter trips planned?

If you would like to invite a stranded crew along, I will be interested..;)

I'm safetyboating for CYC in the morning :) can't wait and it will be freeezing :D

I watched 2 guys in a wooden classic getting rigged up for a sail in Bosham, Chichester Harbour yesterday. It looked painful and very time consuming. One of the guys was in a tender fiddling with either the bowsprit or anchor chain for ages whilst being blown to bits - toooo cold!!

We went down the marina today with the intention of going for a zoom up the river to give the batteries a charge as we hadn't been down for a few weeks but lost motivation when we got there. The pontoon was frozen as well as the deck and one of us would probably have ended up in the water head first.

Opted for the lazy option and turned on the shorepower and went to the cafe for lunch.

Portishead Cruising Club had about 8 boats out for the Winter 3 race yesterday. 20-25 knots and king cold. It took a lot of buckets of sea water to de-ice the decks.

I think today might have been colder. Parts of portishead marina were freezing over. I was getting spray on the decks on the way up to the Severn bridges which froze on the deck. It was gurt cold out there: nice though.

I haven't sailed for a couple of weeks (not due to the weather) so will be out this weekend or next. After two weeks without sailing I get miserable and grumpy!

Some mobos still going too, we haven't been out for a few weeks now, some due to weather and some due to other commitments - thats the situation this weekend (fortunately methinks) but the following weekend we should be going out. We have to be careful when its really cold cos the windows in the canopy go very brittle - expensive lesson learned last winter. We are being a bit more sensible in the rough stuff too after the electrical issues earlier this year.

We're still racing, or would be but for an unfortunate accident involving a T shirt and the prop shaft. Will be back in the water this week and off again. Dont race in January ( there arent any races in Cardiff bay in January) but apart from that is 11 months a year.

The cold bit is March when the water is at its coldest, and not December / January.

We were out last weekend as usual ......... 08:30 lock, having washed the ice off the decks and headed out into the BC ....... video attempt here.

We had far too much sail up front as I forgot to take the No.3 genoa and at times we had 30+ kts true. Oh well, next time I'll remember the No.3 !

It didn't!

That's a nice atmospheric video Blue Pearl. It looks like fun on your boat. I'm glad I didn't go out in that in my boat!
