Not really sure this is the right forum, but have used this slipway occasionally since 2009 (the lower slipway with the carpark beside it)

You have to pay nearly £14 to use this. Went to check it out at the weekend and its under 3 feet of shingle. Basically for anything except a tractor its impossible. Not quite sure how it is the way it is now as we have had no storms to cause this. Is it intentional? Are they trying to put people off? Anyone have any idea perhaps from Eastney boat club who also use it?

Just curious, slipways are few and far between, and I quiet liked this one.

I used that slipway a lot in the 90s, and it used to get cleared, then the next storm cover it in shingle again.......it certainly doesn't get cleared as much these days....shame as it was a great place to launch.

Eastney slip way has been a problem for the last 15years as the shingle banks has risen well above the height of the slipway . As a result every tide the shingle is pushed a long the shore line and covers the freshly cleaned slipway . The local club southsea sea angling club regularly contact the council to get it cleaned but with council budgets being cut it is not always done. Here is the worst bit the langstone harbour board charge you for the use of the harbour but have no involvement to get the slipway cleaned. I know it frustrates the locals who pay a yearly subscription to use the harbour but can not access the harbour by the slipway. I would worn do not go on the shingle with your car as the wheels sink in the soft shingle and i have rescued many a car over the years when i was a member of the southsea angling club in there dumper truck .

Interesting replies here thanks. I somehow thought that Langstone harbour authority had nothing to do with it. Just need a snowplough attachment for the front of my car... and I'll do it myself :D

Thanks for that info Jamie. I saw a 4x4 manage it, but even that had difficulty. A 'fake' 4x4 (L200 or worse) wouldn't stand a chance.

Most have road tyres and don't know how to use their locking diffs. But yeah, that's what I mean about 'fake' 4x4's.

Do you know by any chance if it will be cleared again this year?

The council generally clear it if the local fishing club get on to them in the winter months if the weather is looking good for the weekend. I would if i was you contact them your self a few day before you want to go and use the slipway. I belong to the ECA club and they have a web cam so i can see the slipway so if you are in any doubt give me a pm and i can look on the cam to see the state of play is. Sorry i can not give you the cam address as is the club members cam only.

Edit, I didn't even know that one was there!! Any info as above would be great :)

Not many people do - it seems a bit hidden away and isn't sign posted particularly well... I have little info about it other than that I know it's there. it's very wide, and there is parking (which is free I think)...

The slip is on the side of the slightly deeper channel to the gravel/grit depot - a small freighter loads and unloads there - but I don't know how close the bottom of the slip is to the channel or whether it effects how often you can use it... this site http://www.langstoneharbour.org.uk/boating-launching.php seems to indicate 3 hrs either side of HT

You mean you have a trailer boat and you don't use Boatlaunch?!? :)

Brockhampton Quay (Broadmarsh Slipway)

General information:

Long: -1.003166
Lat: 50.84362
Nearest Place: Brockhampton
Country: UK
Region: South East inc the Solent

Slipway information:

Phone Number: HM 01705 463419
Ramp Description: This slipway is officially called Broadmarsh Slipway, and is within the Broadmarsh conservation area.

There is a 6ft high entry barrier to prevent occupation by travellers, so beware of dinghy masts etc.

A very wide concrete ramp will take several trailers side by side. Moderate slope, slippery with mud near bottom, especially on falling tide. Bottom of ramp just covered at 3.0m of tide. The area immediately beyond the ramp is cluttered with obstacles at low water.

Directions: The ramp is in an industrial area and can be tricky to find. From the W on A27, take A3(M) and then the first slip road, signed B2177 Bedhampton. Go round the large roundabout (i.e. under the A3) and take the 4th exit. Cross the bridge over the A27 and go straight across the next roundabout. Keep going straight ahead down Harts Farm Lane and look for turning to R after about 1/3 mile. Lane leads to car park and slipway after about 500 yards.
Ramp Type: Smooth concrete
Upper Area: Concrete
Lower Area: Concrete
Suitability: Large trailer needs a car (I find this wording confusing; what it's trying to say is that the slip is suitable for all kinds of launching. Some others are only suitable for hand-pushed trolleys or boats that can be carried.)
Ramp Length: 3/4 tidal
Facilities: Parking area may be congested in busy summer periods. Nice views to seaward, Tescos nearby, about a mile from A3(M). No mooring buoys or pontoons. The site is open to the public at all times, remote from housing and unsupervised, so overnight parking is inadvisable.
Charges: Harbour dues are payable to Langstone Harbour Board, but patrols are rare.
Cruising Area: Langstone Harbour is a large, open harbour with several channels. It has a 10 knot speed restriction and bird sanctuaries on some islands. Access to Chichester Harbour through the stumps of the old railway bridge and under a low road bridge. Langstone Harbour entrance (note strong tidal currents) leads to the Solent etc.
Navigational Hazards: Concrete blocks and other junk at low water levels off the end of the ramp. Langstone Harbour gives a long fetch to the S and SW, with consequent chop at the launch site in strong winds from those directions. 10 knot speed limit in the harbour.
