I see Forty Two bought his boat in 1987, I think Floating Preferably bought his at a similar time, maybe a little earlier.

I'm a mere beginner at 11 years.

Anyone else had their boat a long time?

Me too, I've had this one just on 6 years now and that's my record. On the change as we speak. :o

Starting with my first 19' cuddy, which I owned for just over a month, i've kept every boat exactly 3 times as long as the previous one. To maintain this record, I have to keep the current one 9 years, and i'm already 7 years into that. I'd better choose wisely next time though, as it looks like i'll be stuck with it for 27 years!

Interesting formula Nick. Do you think the pundits build a 'replacement' factor into their marketing plans based on people like us?

With your calcs, I'm not due to change for another 12 years now. :(

Roger.

Well, I had my Sunseeker 23DC for 18 years before moving onto my current boat a Sealine S28 which I have had since new in 2002. Before the Sunseeker had a Tremlett 21 for 4 years, before that a Plancraft Stingray for 3 years and a Fletcher 14ft that started this boating lark for 4 years.

Only 2 years for me with the boat before Bizzy Bee, a Rinker 250FV but then, I've only been boating since 2009 (seems longer) having owned 4 boats in that time, a Binliner bowrider, a Fletcher cuddy cabin, the Rinker and now the Sealine. Had Bizzy Bee just over a year so will be due a change in 2015 :)

Perhaps you have to add length into the theory at some stage most of us are in the size of boat I can afford bracket then you reach (or do you) the ultimate size for you then it about new 'features' perhaps this is the point the gap increases.

This will be our 12th year together - feels like 4. Suspect that when the boat goes , my boating on the sea will cease. She just does 90%+ of what I'd like to be able to do. I'd be a liar if I said that I wouldn't like a 31 but the extra size would be a nuisance in some respects.
"The Bird" is by far the most satisfying boat out of the 5 I've had since 1986.

Hey Nick, 'being stuck with a boat for 27 years' is priveledge as far as I am concerned. Acquired mine in September 1985 so only 18 months to make it 30 years!
I started with a 13ft Prout Catarmaran with an old Perkins 30HP, then went to a Yarecraft Sea Swallow with an old Red Band Merc (rang the nuts off that engine for seven years water skiing and sold it to a pal who thrashed on Windemere for another five, Brilliant engine)
Boats are so rewarding, ( except financially of course!) it doesn't matter what the boat is, if it floats, it can be fun, canoes and saily boats included.

On my 8th boat in 10 years but I did have a 2 year break within that:) Could've squeezed in a couple or three more I reckon. I like to change occasionally :encouragement:

I think I'm going for a slightly different record - number of years owned before seeing water! Purchased 2nd in August 2011 and based on current rate of progress will launch around 2020... :o (Good job I retained first boat too otherwise we'd be landlubbers!)
