OK, so I was going to use International Interprotect Epoxy Primer and Trilux on my outdrives with Primocon and Interspeed Ultra on my hull. Then after some consideration I opted for Jotun Seagaurdian on the hull with Velox-Plus on the drives/props with appropriate primers.

I employed a local firm to clean/strip/apply the antifoul to the hull and was going to do the drives/props myself, but when I arrived at the marina they had already coated everything with primer and Seagaurdian.

When questioned they said they also applied Velox-Plus to the props with SG over the top (I have no idea why they did this)!

Without giving it too much thought at the time, I just removed my SS props, topped-up the oil in the drives and fitted new anodes. For some reason I didn't think to remove the Seaguardian from the DP-G drives and the boat is now back on its berth!

I am concerned that the copper oxide in the seaguardian may react with the aluminium drives! I intend to pull her out in say 6m for a wash and could remove/re-apply the correct products then. Or should I pull her out again now? Has anyone done this before? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Hi John

I cant comment on your question - I dont know.
But I WAS there the other day when Jotun agent showed up.
I thought that they said that the A/F was the wrong stuff - I may have got the story wrong though.
Might just have been "souer grapes" though - I believe that they didnt supply it.

BTW - did you see my post? - Here

I dont know much about this. Seaguardian as you will be aware is a cuprous oxide based antifouling and is unsuitable for use on aluminium.

I have not found any info on Velox-plus.

Sorry not much help

Hey, yes I do recognise JW's tender (Buster) going back in the water, thanks for taking the shots Mike!

With regard to AF: I think I will leave it on for now and monitor the effects, I may dive to have a good look at the drives at the end of April and will pull her out anyway after 6m to wash her bottom and if necessary re-AF the drives then.

I am guessing it's unlikely to cause any significant pitting in that time that new AF would not protect/cover!

If anyone has used Seaguardian before on aluminium, I would like to know if there were any adverse effects!

Spoke to Jotun distributor about this - the feeling is it will be OK short term as the primer will protect the aluminium from the copper oxides. As a precaution though I shall take her ashore in a few months to take a good look. Only have 50 hours before I need to change the bellows so will probably do it all then! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
