We are thinking of adding a series drogue to our ever expanding list of kit that is, hopefully, never used. However, "searching" seems to only come up with US and Australian firms. Is there a UK supplier that is known to the assembled experts?
Fair winds to all.

we are currently making our own from info we found on the web. the only suppliers we could find were in US and OZ and pretty expensive so doing it all ourselves including the drogues (all 120 of em!)

There's someone on ebay selling ready-sewn cones for a series drogue.
ebay link

I bought enough to make a series drogue for my boat and they seem well made.

Thanks for the information folks. I had a nasty notion that the answer might be involving getting out the sewing palm!
Fair winds.

Theres some info on them on this months, either yachting monthly, or boat owner, i cant recall which one, but look in the adverts section near the back its def there as i was thinking of getting one myself. There is also an article in this months yachting monthly where a couple in north france in a bavaria needed to use one, and perhaps there is some info there on where to get one. good luck, and lets hope you never have to use it.......

The one metre bags from a builders merchants make brilliant drogues. From Jewsons they are free!

[/ QUOTE ] I am not sure I would want a series drogue made up of lots of those bags !!

They are also very good for taking garden rubbish to the tip - oops, not boaty, sorry.

That was written over four years ago and beneteau_305_553 has possibly found out all about series drogues by now? ;)

.

Bu88er me ! So it was
However, the principle of the series drogue remains the same, as does the principle of a Jewsons sack.
I'm sure there will be a "Beneteau-305-553" out there somewhere who wasn't reading the forum 4 years ago. Maybe it will give him pause for thought before he rips the ar5e out of his vessel with his newly acquired Jewsons bag ;)

Cannot help wondering where the op will want to sail that they can use a drogue
In the north sea- certainly the southern half - there is too much shipping about.
The same goes for the channel & probably the irish sea
The winds we get on average are not really " drogue needy" & one is normally within 48 hours of a port
True we get force 9's now & then but a reasonable well found yacht can heave too ( unless it os mine which simply refuses to do so ) for long enough for it to pass
The hassle of laying & retrieving just does not sound worth it
However, if going well north or out towards biscay that would be a different matter
I wonder how many "local" sailors have actually needed a drogue & how often & how they got on

Voss was a strong advocate of lying to a sea anchor and his book gives details of their construction. He recommends an iron hoop about 4' diameter to keep the mouth open. He ( strangely) doesn't mention Jewson bags although to be fair polypropylene hadn't been invented then. You need a VERY strong anchor point for a drogue in a force 9 I'd be running for cover at the mention of 'gale - soon'.
