who sunk on Sunday

I was on route back to Poole from Weymouth and was listening on 16 to a fishing boat trying to help a small boat caught in Portland race on Sunday, the boat had rolled and the helicopter was on its way.

Did they manage to rescue the occupants ? Once I got closer to Solent coast guard all I could hear was "can I have a radio check please".

Hope they were all rescued ?

The local paper reports that all 4 crew on a dory which capsized in the race were rescued by fishing boat Masada (well done to them) and transfered to the helicopter. They were later released from hospital after a check up.

Looking at the activities of the helicopter over the weekend, how any sane person can believe that it isn't needed at Portland is beyond me.

Absolutely right to do away with the Portland chopper would be crazy, I,m glad the people were saved.

Listening to it unfold on VHF brings it home how dangerous it can be when we get it wrong.

Unfortuately the Portland helicopter crashed yesterday - engine failure, but the crew survived. Apparently ploughed into a field and minutes later burst into flames. And I was only watching them earlier near the needles doing trials that day.
