I was speaking to a self funded entrant who was a bit miffed about the cost of required gear (with backups required for most everything). So it's not just the entrance fee. Not much chance against sponsored boats, I fear.
 
I can imagine but without someone being paid to organise the race I doubt it would happen. I'm not the biggest fan of how it's panned out but I'm very grateful that it's happening. I'm really looking forward to following the race, maybe because I wasn't around for the first one and I hear about the stories about the heyday of sailing.

I'm not sure who you've spoke to but I saw Istvan Kopar has a go fund me and reckons he needs 100k plus the boat.

I'm glad Susie had had good publicity from the race, I sailed lasers against her in my youth (not that we knew eachother) in a "rival" club a few times and could see she was heading for big things, I didn't realisen't it was the same Susie straight away.

Getting back to Greenfingers I take my hat off to him for taking it on, I like the underdog...
