The barometer fell as low as 965 last night- it was almost back to starting again at " FINE". What pressures did others read?

Torquay was ROugh, ROugh, ROugh- huge waves. I almost couldn't walk along the pontoons at the marina they were moving so much. The storm swell was getting under the harbour walls and blow holing up through man hole covers.

Hope people haven't had too much damage and get things sorted quickly.

Did I have the highest

My theory about opposites may have applied with the storms and low pressure in the UK and the flat calm and high pressure in NZ.... in Auckland at the weekend we hit 1040 hpa

985 in Winchester, but I saw one of the barometric sites was reading 953 over the Scillies - now that's low!!

One or both of us needs to calibrate our barometers. A 5 mb difference between Winchester and Petersfield would have removed a loose toupe or two!

Go on, give it a good tap.

To be fair mine's just a kitchen interest barometer - not for forecasting purposes, so I reckon give or take 5 would be about its measure of accuracy.

Mind you a 5mb difference between here and Petersfield, isn't far off a 20-25 mb between here and Devon = windy!

The people with the lowest pressure must have been people like me who's boats were out of the water out of harms way!

Ah, well now you have to wait for a period of high pressure, and with a careful application of dexterity solder and blow torch, you should be able to make the needle stand straight out through the glass. Very impressive talking point then!

Interestingly, my daughter is doing a weather project and has found this site in Otterbourne, not too far away from me, and a wee bit closer to you.
