Who else went out today? We did! (lots of pics)

Decided to bite the bullet today and take DV out for her last trip of the year. It was a chilly and draughty but good fun for an hour.

Had me Arthur Askey Comms on with 2 pairs of socks and the ebersplutterer on full bore. Decided to head round the sovereign light tower which is about 5 miles due south of the marina.

We cruised in company with Mike and Geraldine in another SS Martinique 36.

And for some reason decided to round the tower the opposite way round.

No nasty collisions but there was a fair swell out there. Heres a nice one of Eastbourne bay with Beachy head on the left.

You really appreciate how low the sun is at this time of year.

Well we encountered the usual cluster of 2 knot raggies in the harbour entrance. We kept behind them with the little steerage we had but still got scowled at in the lock as usual. Oh well!. We then decamped to the Club for a pint in the tender.

And thought how it was worth it not to lay up in October even if this was the only trip out we get this winter. Alas servicing and antifoul has to be done but will wait til the end of Feb. Anyone else had a trip out today??

Royal Sovereign Light Tower. It replaced the RS Light Vessel about 30 years ago.

We were racing (RORC stuff) and the tower was in use as a mark for the first time. A boat (which shall be nameless, to protect the owner's reputation) tacked round the tower a bit too close. As the boat came upright, her mast punched a hole in the platform floor. Ooops. No-one hurt, but the next time the crew came to the start line, they hoisted a couple of fenders to the masthead /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif


As kids we used to race in dinghies and cats round the old light vessel every year. A bit hairy at times, but the fleet used to be about a 100 strong.

We went out from Dover and anchored in Pegwell Bay, mulled wine and turkey sandwiches, then back to Dover at sunset.

We had a little potter round Chichester harbour today. Marvellous to get out and blow away the cobwebs. Decent grub: smoked salmon pate and turkey sandwiches.

she`s been in since March and looking a bit mucky being white antifoul. There is no heavy fouling though and we still maxed out at 31 knots. Blakes Hard Racing. I will use it again this winter. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
