To save me trawling around all the shops and websites, has anyone recently done a search and found who has the most competitive price for local UK waters C-Map chips?

Rang C-map and they do an exchange for a local UK chart for £45. But I have just bought a Navman and need to buy from new. Buying a secondhand one from e-bay plus the replacement charge more or less adds up to new price.

someone told me there may be deals going around at the Boat Show. I need the one for the North West of England.

They are a lot cheaper from USA. Coverage area is irrelevant. I bought a ctg coving English Channel from a supplier in Florida while on holiday there $ for £ at the time.

Really peeved me when the NT+ superwide ctgs were stopped.

I've done the same in the past, but caught out when I ordered electronics from the US. When Parcelforce delivered it they wanted £106 in import duty before handing the parcel over. In my experience, US chandlers are happy to quote you US prices but fail to mention they make a declaration on the package so you get hit with import duty.

Have things changed? Are there some US chandlers who are relaxed about sending discreet packages abroad? That is how I buy cheap Viagra from India. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Talked to a very helpful marine dealer today who I bought a new Navman 5500 with external aerial off for £361. Got it a bit cheaper than his standards price of £375 because I bought it through E-bay. He recommends paying a bit more for a C-map NT chart rather than the standard chart. Is this good advice? I only want one for sailing the North West of England

Navman 5500 uses C-Map NT+ (dont forget the +)

I have a superwide (no longer available) which covers the whole channel (both sides from the Thams and round as far as Bristol.

I would definitely recommend getting the wide ctg of your area.
