I was wondering if anyone could help me. I live in sunny Derbsyhire and have my boat in mayflower marina, Plymouth. And was wondering if you knew of anyone offering a boat check service within the area as dont think i will be able to get down soon.

Appreciate any info.
Thanks
Chris

Chris,

Not heard of such a service, but surely, the marina staff do that for you? That's why they are there?

The marina staff (and any other boat owners passing by) should ensure it remains tied up snug with fenders hanging in the right place.

The on site engineers will be able to go aboard and check the bilges, batteries and run engine up if required.

Alternatively ask the marina office if a local contractor provides whatever service you feel is required.

If that draws a blank, ring Dartmouth Harbour Office and obtain their list of agents. It is a requirement if you keep a boat on the Dart to have a local agent if you live afar. There may be one who can travel to Plymouth.

Alternatively, get down there, bag the sails, double the lines and don't forget to ring the marina after the first big gale of the Autumn.

I sympatise, we live in Yorkshire and currently berth on the Tamar. Not easy to 'just pop down to check'. Best to make a weekend of it a couple of times over the winter and find a good B&B.
