As always a huge variety of goods on offer - ended up buying RNLI cufflinks and a coat for my son. Too afraid to go home and tell the wife about the boat I would like to have gone for (Sabreline 395) or the generator or fish finder and the navtex I would have liked. Still I can always sneak back without the kids and fill the boot up with goodies and take them straight down to the boat.

I am still not convinced about the Matts way of 'persuading' the wife into the new boat. Has anyone else succeded that way?

Re: urgent clinic

Look, the point is that you only *pretend* to have bort the thing, and act out idiot boat-crazed husband routine, very sorry, I'm nuts, sorry sorry sorry. Then *pretend* to cancel if she goes uncontrollably up the wall. For goodness sake don't wait until it's reasonable and sensible to buy a walloping great big lump of plastic, because (especially if you have one already) it's never ever is.

Um, I'm on an economy drive, so I bort a Guinness.

Uhm.....werent allowed to take the cheque book, wallet or plastic and she frisked me before we went in !...apparently the new one we bought last year still owes a lot of brownie points and the conservatory is next.

Dear Lord what kind of monster have I created.

Re: Plan (pauline) B

1) I spose it wd depend on how good he was at acting. Cos of course, he might not be acting! So it wd be quite dangerous for you to say "Oh yeah sure, yeah right I saw that on the BB.." cos you cdn't be too sure.

2) When discovered, you cd simply ring up the broker/whatever and upgrade for something decent.

3) Finally, for various reasons, possible use of "mad husband routine" might be a minor concern if other half finds this forum.

I'm sure the BB wd be most interested in a female-oriented version of mad husband routine. A variant for children was used by one of mine who left a note in the cockpit "Dear dad: I am out at the shops, and I am very very sorry about your boat"

Re: Plan (pauline) B

My "female oriented" excuses have always been "It only cost £1.99" and "What do you mean, you've never seen me wearing this before. That just goes to show how much notice you take of me !!". My eldest son sent a text to us a few weeks ago while we were on the boat: "You left all the boat booze in the hallway - bad move!"

Re: Plan (pauline) B

still stick to majoring on the discount / savings of the purchase rather than the price / benefits!

However as I only managed 2 guiness and one roll (£3-75!) this was the cheapest show yet..........

Don't know about others but I find myself looking at things at the show but then thinking it all through over the next couple of months - bit like planning a passage for a few months before doing the trip; more fun.

On line shopping and mail order catalogs take the fun out of deals and haggling - the 'right' price is relatively easy to establish before you even walk in.

Go to Pumpkin

Second trip yesterday to SBS (yes I get bored easily sitting at home!) and had another good look around. Best place for bargains was without doubt the Pumpkin Marine stand. Ignore all the prices shown, they will accept silly offers. I bought a load of Aqua signal serie 40 nav lights which normally retail for about £50 for somewhere between £5 - 10 each. If you need a liferaft in a valise they have new Avons for less than a grand. All sorts of other goodies at crazy prices - take a look.

I thought that Pumpkin had gone belly up some time ago, maybe they are trying to clear all their old stock either to close down or re-stock with new stuff.

Re: Go to Pumpkin

Pumpkin haven't gone "belly up" I was with the owner during the summer, he owns the boat BLITZ which is in front of you as you enter St Kats. He closed Pumpkin down because he had a better use for the freehold premises that Pumpkin was in. That isn't to detract from the bargains you got, wish I had known about them.
