Whittalls Davits Ltd., are, of course no more. Those on my Princess 360 have a turnscrew lock on each extending arm.
Made of a plastic material, both have now snapped at the s/steel T-bar used to turn them. Looking for either a supplier of replacements or something that I can substitute to do the job?

Hi,

In exactly the same situation so watching this thread with bated breath!

Although if I can find what the thread is, we have a metal fabrication shop here so could get some made I'm sure?

Thanks!

Not sure how helpful this reply will be but here goes....

I have solved a similar problem on some Simpson Lawrence davits which came fitted to a used boat I acquired recently. In my case, the sliding extending horizontal arms in the davits were clamped in position using plastic thumb-wheels moulded onto the end of a threaded rod about 3" long. The rods were brass (possibly bronze) and were screwed into stainless steel tapped holes in the fixed part of the davits. Over time the threads had seized and although I managed to free up one, I had to destroy the other.

My solution was to buy an M12 thumb-wheel and then drill out the female thread in the stainless part and re-tap it at M12 (not as difficult as it sounds). This works well but the thread engagement is quite limited so would not take loads normally expected of an M12 thread. In my case this is not an issue as the function of the clamps are to locate the sliding arms in position and stop them vibrating when the engines are running. There are no lifting loads transmitted through them as these are taken by the underside of the slideway in the fixed part of the davits.

Hope this makes some sense!
