As description above. have awful clanking noise developed whilst the steering under load. I have the details of Mr Mogridge but have to self disassemble and deliver to him??

Any one closer to Brighton or forumites familiar with these

Thanks

Lovely bits of kit. You may find that the drop down output shaft goes directly into a bevel box and so the shaft can be removed from there without being cut. Unfortunately you have to remove the whole of the steering pedestal from the boat and return to Whitlock. They did a great job on mine.
You will probably find that the cause is water ingress from under the compass on top of the pedestal. If you carefully remove the compass you will see that there are some rather annoying holes which allow water to run down the main steering shaft and seize the bearings on the bevel box! When you put it all back together just fill the holes with a suitable sealant.

ps. If it seizes it will only do so as you are coming into a berth with expensive boats all around you! Dont ask how I know this.

The unfortunate thing is that i can turn the wheel with a finger all the way in both directions, there is no stiffness simply a nasty crunching noise.
