From tonight's Jersey Evening Post -
A 38ft English sailing yacht was towed in to the harbour by the lifeboat this morning after it's engine failed, due to problems with the engine gasket.
Excuse my ignorance, but what are those white flappy things for? Shouldn't a yacht be able to make its own way to harbour without a stinky old engine?

Plenty of wind from North west altho sheltered on south coast there was enough for him to be going in the right direction.

Indeed
it is very nice
the Bloody stream if i recall was worth a few pints
But i would sooner arrive on a planned route
than risk drfiting into the skerries

Yes, and the smart move is to book a tow into the marina itself (it scares the berth-holders [and is usually against the rules] actually sailing into a marina) by mobile phone to avoid alerting half the neighbourhood. Always assuming that the tides aren't excessive and the wind reasonable.

My brother is a rag and stick merchant and he always poo poos my motor boat, but every time ive been out on a proper passage with him guess what? the bl**dy wind just does not seem to blow in the right direction so on goes the engine!! Still it gives me a good laugh and its a right good way to wind him up!!!!

I just want to retire with my boat to the Med!
