I quite like the look of white bulkeheads with dark wood trim more or less in the American style. My previous boat ,a Peterson 30 ,was all white inside apart from locker doors and various trimming bits and the interior was very bright and airy.
Now I own a Fulmar ,actually the first one,and the warnish is fading to an unpleasant shade of greyish brown.
Would you lot consider it a crime to British boatbuildind tradition if I painted the saloon bulkheads in white, and, as long as I would be doing it why not the semi partitions that separate the bunks from the galley and chart table too.The upholstery is in dark blue so I think the whole thing would coordinate well.I believe that a nice bit of dark wood trimming here and there would finnish things off nicely.
By the way the interioir is no longer lined in that awfull foam backed vinil but in white panels.
your opinions are welcome

Thanks

Well at the risk of being shot by traditionists, I've gone this way a little bit with my wooden boat. The whole interior was varnished wood and therefore quite dark even though the bulkheads are painted. The inside of the coachroof sides were not attractive varnished for a variety of reasons so I stripped off the varnish and painted them leaving the lockers varnished (and the roof beams). It has lightened considerably and the contrast between the clean painted finish and varnish is very effective. I used Pearl White not pure white and I do have full gloss varnish on the locker fronts rather tahn satin finish. I don't regret doing it. But then mine is a one off so no one can compare it to another of the same model. Might you knock off a bit of value by having an obviously altered finish? I don't know the answer to that, just suggesting you might bear that in mind.
