Not good, in the case of an Iron bridge. That could fracture very suddenly!

We cannot do work in the summer because the Environment Agency has told us it wants the bridge open for the summer for recreational boat traffic.

This is interesting as I was given to understand that the river would not be closed. Looks like further investigation is needed.

Closed perhaps beginning of November (2013?) to end of March similar to winter lock closures? That way it should minimise effect on river use.
