Looks like a good SE blow forecast for Thursday nite/Friday morning. Just what's needed to liberate a few more containers from the Napoli. Thank goodness they seem to have removed most if not all the fuel oil.

At least with the wind from that direction they won't land up on Branscombe beach! They'll have to close half the Devon coast if it really gets windy!!
 
Had an update from my father who knows someone who lives very local. A local farmer had his equipment tied up in farm as people were parked and double parked all down the lane. Official complaints got no where. Got fed up and drove tractor with large trailer of some sort down the lane. Lots of damaged vehicles apparently
 
Not at all surprised. I passed by that way today, a large sign on main road proclaiming that Branscombe is open for business as usual, although I believe the beach is still closed and is likely to be so for a few months yet.

Is there any business in Branscombe, apart from the beach?

The World Heritage Coast website, under Branscombe Events for the year ahead, states : "Sorry there are no events available in the area you have selected. Please try a different location or check back again".

Sounds like the ideal place for a relaxing holiday.
 
Yes there are 2 good pubs and a good beach side cafe. Even the car park is particularly attractive having plenty of grass. All in all a lovely place to while away some time.
 
The wreck we had in Scilly in '97 only had 140 something containers on it but the mess took years to clear up. Having just got back from hols the first picture I saw of it was today when the YM turned up in the post and the beach looked in a fairly ruined state. If there's still 2000 to go you can expect an awful lot of Devon's beaches to be messed up with litter for a long time to come, not to mention the mangled containers themselves.
 
Almost all, I did read somewhere that those containing the more dangerous chemicals were below decks. I suspect that the initial message not to approach any containers was just a ploy to try and keep people away.

Local beeb news now carries the story that more containers are likely to be lost overboard in the next 72 hours. Seems there is now planes watching for these and people ashore at so called strategic points, whatever that means!
