Where is the chespest place to buy one of these poles, either new or second hand?
The prices ive seen seem way too high considering they are only short lenghts of aluminium

Z Spars was the cheapest I found. They make them up per requirements. You'll find them wth the YBW directory on the home page here.

Wooden ones are cheaper. A good traditional chandlery should sell you the parts, including the wooden pole of course! If you can't find one marinestore.co.uk is a good place to start.

I made my own from aluminium tube. It can be bought for a very low price. 38mm diameter cost me about £9 for a 5metre length, and bigger sizes are still low priced. OK it may not be anodised but it will still last a number of years, and the end fittings are reasonably priced.
