Whisker pole for 23\'er

Can only find Mailspeed marine @£140 Googling for a whisker pole for 23' boat. Anyone know where I might find a better price?

On a 23 footer surely you could make do with something that could also double as a boathook?

That's about what mine cost me last year, and to be honest it's a lot thicker than a boat hook and longer too.

I bought an extending Forespar one from Seateach but it was the same money. Nice item. Another suggestion made to me was to go to the local sailing club and buy an old mast off a windsurfer for peanuts and fit some ends to it. I know the One Stop chandlers in Maldon sells two sizes of ali tube for the purpose and ends to match so you can make to own spec.

Holt Allen make (made?) end fittings that are the right size to fit inside the 1.5" aluminium tube that's used for TV aerials (<£20 for 3m). Used this set-up very occasionally on our 22' er.

(I've got 2 such fittings doing nothing if you're tempted down this route)
