Just spliced eyes in a couple of new 16mm marlow docklines. I was trying to put a whipping/serving below the throat off the splice with 2mm 8 plait polyester, Unfortunately I keep breaking the sail needles when finishing off through the splice. Any ideas please?

Quite enjoy doing them really on a miserable wet day. Never used a whipping before but someone mentioned it is possible for splice to fail without. Just hard going doing the sailmaker type whipping and broke 2 needles. Must be an easier way.

I use one of these, either able to be pushed up through rope you are working on, under whipping line & pass whipping line though tool end and draw back down through line, or just whip over tool and again draw tool out and whipping line pulled out the bottom... if you get my meaning!
