While we\'re on the subject of...

Eberspa, Ebersh, ebbar, ummm, diesel heaters. How much, in real terms Inc vat, fitting, etc etc, should we allow for fitting of an heater suitable for a 32' boat?

Due to the nature of said craft, it's not on the options list!

So about 2.5k-3.5k..... for a setup that will actually work.

Gulp. I paid just under £1000 for my Eberspacher set up, tho' that was 4 years ago. Installed it myself, which was interesting and 'fun'. As I'm not very handy/DIY-y it took me a weekend.

Dunno about the hot water, but so far as heating is concerned, there's a lot to be said for simplicity. Single outlet works fine for me - if you add more outlets up for'ard etc., then the pipe runs start to take up a huge amount of locker space...

I rejected the Mikuni design on the basis that it had only two modes - On and Off. Which means that if the thermostat switches it off, then when the cabin cools down it has to go through the start-up cycle again when it turns itself on. The start-up cycle is the most battery-intensive bit. So, although the Mikuni had (if I remember corrrectly) lower consumption in theory it seemed to me to be more battery hungry in fact. Also involves greater temperature fluctuations and more noise. The Eber is nice by comparison because, once it approaches the set temperature it steps down the heat, and fan power, in stages - so if you have it on a good setting it will tick away almost silently in the background, not using much power.

Maybe they've changed the design of the Mikuni though, or I was looking at a basic model. It was slightly cheaper than the Eber at a boat show and with the boat show discount, they came out almost the same cost.

I paid about £1050 for my Webasto Airtop 2000 with 2 outlets, which I have installed myself on the new boat (29ft).

Edit: I should add that it was a SIBS deal.

I agree about the capability of the Eber, thats why I chose the 4Kw airtronic, and was never disappointed with it.

If you're on a budget - you can usually pick up a second hand Eber (the base model) for a couple of hundred, add in another 100 for the bits and you're away with a basic setup... that's what we did! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif and we'll find out how well it works this weekend!! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
