Seeing the article in MBM Sealine S38 / Sunseeker 35 which weighed up the pros and cons, I wonder which one you would buy? if indeed you were in the market for a sports cruiser

Probably obvious really cos I've already got an S37. Why, because I've got three kids and the Sealine has loads more living space.

Quite pleased to see that my 1997 boat performs as well as the current model (when its working that is) despite having less powerful engines.

Mind you I'm a bit confused. The Squeeker supposedly displaces 2.7 tonnes more and yet is faster with the same engines, how does it do that ?

'14 knots should be fast enough for anyone'

LOL

You might be right, but i really dont like the style of either boat, boats should
have style and personality, these boats look like they were designed on the same computer with the same engines, same everything

might as well buy a rover metro!

oh Dear, that was close to a rant

all IMHO!

Neither - I prefer something much more stable to give all year usage and excellent sea keeping. Phallic symbols I can do without!

... I too was very confused by this. I suspect that the narrower beam of the Squeeker has a lot to do with this, plus whatever they have done with the underwater sections towards the rear.

It's a tribute to the S37 that the new boat really isn't a lot different, apart from multiplexed wiring, no anchor "beak", and other minor updates to the styling. Neither of these boats are anywhere near being phallic extensions in my book: I'd save that term for "go fast" cigarette style boats with 8litre V8's and thru-hull exhausts.

Just to confuse the issue, I really like the Hardy Commodore 42 as well: styling, seakeeping, etc. Unfortunately, it costs £416,845, which is why my next boat is probably going to be another Sealine...

dave.

Re: Faster Sunseeker

Er dunno, but how about:

Sunseeker: Designer D. Shead
Sealine: Designer Sealine in-house team

Not being derogatory to Sealine, but Don Shead has designed the odd fast powerboat in his time.

No further questions, M'lud.

For Rover Metro...read porsche Boxter ( but I wouldn't buy one of those either).

As a devoted sexseeker fan, I actually prefer S37 at that size....but then not in market for either... !

You're right the S38 and the 37 are incedibly similar. What they seem to have done with the 38 is to get rid of storage space and converted it into more cabin space the guest cabin being huge now since getting rid of the lazerette and a few cupboards. There is a couple of inches more headroom also. The length is the same at 37ft 2in (bit of rounding up there Sealine!!)
Not sure if the forward sloping arch gives any advantage or whether it's just a fashion thing.

Speed is not just about weight and engine power output - the big difference in performance between the Sexseeker and Sealine is what lies under the water, or rather how much of it can get OUT of the water when on the plane. Don Shead has probably just managed to design a more efficient planing section aft with a resultant lower drag coefficient than the Sealine. He's been doing it for years - speed and exterior looks first, practical interiors and comfort second - that's the Sunseeker way.

In terms of practicality I would pick the Sealine every time. If I were being image conscious in the Balearics, I'd pick the Portofino - it's a great looking boat. Anyway, I can't afford either so it's all hypothetical!

I liked the cockpit barbecue though !!!
