My wife and I are busy planning our long awaited cruise in the Med. We would like to join a sailers / yachties blog or website. We will appreciate any suggestions on which site to use. We are not very computer littered so it must be easy to operate. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Who is it for and what do you want to use in terms of media, ie videos etc?
I use blogger.com, its free and very easy to use. But not so likely to be picked up by the itinerant sailing community!
I can even post over my ssb radio when at sea, only text though.

It's well supported and efficient in its construction.
A blog is much more dynamic than a website, far less effort to change things.
IMHO a blog is the ideal way to keep friends and family in touch with your exploits!

We have used travelpod.com during our time out here in Med. It is free, simple to use and we have had no problems with it so far.

Another vote for blogger - very easy, lots of help / FAQs, totally free, and many templates to choose from or even make your own so it looks however you want - that's what I did so it looks just like the rest of our website, see the link below - the log is blogger the rest is my own but it's almost seamless.

We post by SSB mail, wifi, wherever and have never had a problem. It also integrates with Picasa (Google's free photo software) so we select the photos we want and click a button called 'blog this' and in seconds we've posted pictures to the blog. Great.

I use free ggogle products as follows

Googlepages for the web site (about as easy as putting together a powerpoint presentation)
Google blogger for logs and events
Google picasa for photos
Google world for routes and "where are we now"

They all integrate easily and there are few practical restrictions in the space you use.

Good luck

Freewebs

Dude, this is sooooooo simple even I can cope with it!

Not 1 million functions - but I consider this a good thing!

Usual free Website (pics and text and a few addons) - but has a blog page - and a Photo Editor that is simple to use to re-size pics.

Finished product - well actually still a work in progress!

Look! - me Website!

Freewebs has just released a new 'photo album' page which you can add to your freewebs site (useful if anyone else is using it):

Here's my new album:

Looks really good, you can have different sections for different trips, and each section can be viewed picture by picture (which allows comments on each picture) or as a slideshow.

The only problem I have at the moment is that I can't set the background of the page like the rest of the website (but I've emailed Freewebs to try and resolve this).

Have to say - very, very easy to use and a great free service - can't recommend them highly enough.
