An old fashioned octahedrial radar reflector should be hung in the raincatcher oriantation. This is clearly not with a point upper most (although mine has hole in it for this purpose) but is it with an edge upper most i.e. suspended from the middle of an edge or from the two points at either end, or with a plane uppermost i.e. as it would sit on a table. to my way of thinking this would require 3 points of suspension, one at each corner. Diagrams never seem to be that clear about it.

I suspend mine in the 'raincatcher' position. I drilled additional holes in the required corners, then a piece of cord from each 3 corners to a single shackle - both top & bottom. All nicely seized up with whipping twine so it doesn't move. Worked well for several years. I used shackles in the corners so the cord didn't chafe.

Put it down on a table. That's the way it should be mounted/suspended. If you are going to suspend it, you are right, 3 holes and lines required. Why they don't come with holes like this, I don't know. Drill holes and put simple rubber wiring grommets in the holes to protect your lines from chafe.
