I don't like DSC. In due course they will re-write the standards for yacht radios but meanwhile they are a pain. I would buy a second-hand non-DSC set. If you really want to buy new, I would avoid Standard Horizon, which in my view is a bit tatty. Icom is much better kit (and actually the same company, I think?).
