Which tender will fit Fairline P50

Now in the midst of acquiring a Fairline Phantom 50 and need to try and buy a tender. As ever there are many unanswered questions?

1. How big a tender to buy? I am currently thinking 3.1 - 3.4 m with 9.9 - 15 hp motor
2. How much to pay for a used tender (say 10 year old and as per above spec)?
3. Is a Rib better or worse than an inflatable floor?

Anyone got one they want to sell?

All thoughts very welcome.
 
How will you get the tender on and off the platform - davits/crane, or just dragging it over the end of the boat? Airdeck much lighter than a rib - but having had both I much prefer the rib, even though it is a bit heavier. Are you just pootling about with the tender or do you want to use it for toys etc? If the latter, you're going to need a bigger engine.
 
If it has the passerrelle option than that is the crane. If it's the big one it does 350kg so can handle a 3m RIB and 30-40hp outboard, if that's what you want. Eg walker bay 320 genesis and Yamaha

I think 3.4m is too big for the Phantom 50, it'll restrict access through the transom gate. I'd look at 3.1m.

As JTB says, which engine depends on whether you want to pull ringos, waterski's etc. If you do, then 15 hp will tow kids, but for adults you really need 25 or more. 2 strokes are ideal for this purpose as they're lighter with more grunt.

If you plan to permanently store it on the bathing platform, then there's no advantage to an air floor, so may as well get a RIB which will handle better.

edit: A small jet rib would be OK weight wise on your bathing platform, if the crane has enough capacity. They don't make very good tenders, and can be unreliable, but I can't deny they're good fun. If you plan to do lots of ship-to-shore I'd stick with an outboard though.

The boat has a 300Kg passarelle so I guess this will be doing the lifting. Kids are 11 year olds but no plan to pull ringo's or toys. Perhaps an important point is I think they will learn a lot about boating from using the tender so nothing too powerful but need to shunt 2 adults and 2 kids ship to shore. Jet ribs don't press any buttons.

Swim platform can take a RIB but is it better to be able to roll it up and have a clear platform?

Finally, SWMBO is not confident near water. is a RIB or air hull more stable in the water?

Get a RIB then. SWMBO will prefer. If you want a clear platform when anchored, just launch the rib. If you get a full inflatable and roll it up, it's quite a faff, and you wont have a locker big enough to put it in when rolled, so you'll have a messy looking swim platform with a rolled inflatable on it, urgh

2.8-3.0 rib with 10hp sounds about right here. 15-20hp if you want to go faster. Up to you whether tiller or console steering

Really, why not? Most kids that age love being pulled around on a ringo, and you have a big enough bathing platform and strong enough crane to easily handle a fast enough RIB.

I'd look for a 3.1m rib with 15 hp 2 stroke, and preferably a console and steering wheel. This will be light enough for you and your wife or one of the kids to carry up the beach, but fast enough for fun on the water.

The weight is always the problem with Jetribs (and the cost:eek:). The smallest Williams weighs 300kg and that is right on the limit for the OP's pasarelle. That also makes it far too heavy to drag up a beach too. IMHO and as you say, a standard 3.2m RIB with 15hp engine is as big as you want to go on a P50 platform and more than powerful enough for young kids to potter around in too. And you can drag it up a beach (with some effort!)

WB Genesis 310 - in Hampshire ... 2yo - not the center console type and no engine (we used the 2.5hp 2 stroke that wouldn't be powerful enough for your needs anyway) - but it does have a double seat ...

Was half in mind to keep it as a beach boat - but I don't think that's going to happen ...
