I did try googling this query, and also used the search facility on this site - both without success. I am currently replacing the headlining in MD and need to buy stainless steel staples. My staple gun is a Rapesco, which takes 53/4-8mm.

Rapesco don't appear to sell stainless steel staples, so the exam question is" to what does the "53" above refer? Presumably, the "4-8mm" means the length of the staple.

A wider issue -are staples generally interchangeable?

Thanks in anticipation.

Rapesco were taken over by 'Tacwise' - Google them - they have a helpline.
Was in a similar position to yourself a few years back, it was very hard to buy s/s staples in small quants. When I did finally source them I had to buy another gun as they didn't fit mine.
Guns aren't that expensive - you might go down that route ?

Good luck

Wider issue :- No - staples come in interchangeable 'families' but only get on with their relatives - don't like strangers !

The '53' IIRC refers to the dims. of the staple (apart from feet) and most importantly the thickness of the originating wire.

I did my linings ( hundreds of linear metres and lovely smelly glue too!) using my old Arrow t50 as it 'appens .

But, a word to the wise if I may. Get the shortest staples you think will do. They punch their way through any headlining boards so may raise the plywood grain if anywhere near the plywood thickness
( or add backing strips, even two thicknesses of vinyl along the staple line)

Hope that helps a bit
