What are the collective opinions of the BC members??? I was about to renew my RNLI offshore membership when it occurred to me that most of my sailing is around the Portishead area (where I keep my boat) and maybe I should consider giving to the Portishead lifeboat or SARA instead.

Any thoughts?

In your situatiion i would donate to the local rescue crews but if you need RNLI donate to them after and a slab of beer.

A friend of my brother's who used to fly a coastguard helicopter out of Lee on Solent told him not to give his money to RNLI but give it the local boats in his area. He said they seem to struggle but RNLI have loads of money. We have a RIB at our club belonging to CARVA, it never seems to move and all it saved last year was some womens underwear from one of the rivers. Portishead and SARA seem much more professional.
