I am standing for the big final question, which wardrobe??
The boat is a XC50 (X-Yachts) with the main purpose of purchase live aboard + join in some racing under ISAF regulation class 4.
The choice of sailmaker I made already, looking at service and personal relationships, it will be Northsails.
I have only storage for one wardrobe, the flyers are all to be asymmetric, running rigging is setup that way.
It is not a matter of costing, but more about handling. Only the headsails have furling, the main will be with 3 reefs. It comes to the choice of materials ;
The boat is fully spec with B&G H3000 Hercules Performance Pack, processor.
Area's to sail, are the Northic's, Med, Atlantic crossing, Southern Ocean.

Would love to hear from you guys with a lively discussion;

Mainsail 70sqm
Furling Jib 55sqm 98%
Inner Jib 38sqm (selftack able)
Flyers 3
Stormsails

Option 1
Full Batten Mainsail 3Di 760 (Aramid/Dyneema) 19,600 DpW
Furling Jib 3Di 760 (Aramid/Dyneema) 22,400 DpW
Inner Jib Dyneema SRP 9J
A0 Asymmetric Aramid Laminate T1 NLGZ7j
A1.5 Asymmetric Norlon NO 7J
A4 Asymmetric Norlon NO 15j
Storm Jib Polyester High Visibility 10.4 L OrangT
Storm Trysail Polyester High Visibility 10.4 L OrangT

ࡹ—Option 2
Full Batten Mainsail Dyneema SRP 97
Furling Genoa Dyneema SRP 77
Selftacking Furling Jib Dyneema SRP 97
C1 RF Gennaker 60-70% Girth Aramid Laminate T1 ZL0e
G2 Gennaker Norlon NO 77
Storm Trysail PolyPreg 10.4 L Orangi
Storm Jib PolyPreg 10.4 L Orangi

50' X-Yacht, Southern Ocean, Dyneema, Asymmetric Laminates, B&G H3000 Hercules Performance Pack and processor.............. enough to leave me feeling very inadequate.................surely not the objective of the OP?

without question - A Parasail ! - they are THE BEST !
I dont have any affiliation with the makers , just desperately yearning for one :-)

If you're going to sail where you say you are, you shouldn't need to ask such a basic question.

Choosing between two different composites for a boat that will be both a live-aboard whilst circumnavigating and that will be doing some racing is hardly a basic question. If it's that basic which would you choose - 3Di 760 (Aramid/Dyneema) or Dyneema SRP 97? Would you recommend the Gennaker in Girth Aramid Laminate or the Asymmetric in Norlon? Do you feel a self -tacking job is worth the performance penalty when racing, considering the amount of ocean crossing to be done, or would you say that it's mostly downwind so there's not much point to a self-tacker? What's the logic behind you're answer?

Perhaps not posted in the best place but it's a pretty valid question to me. Are you suggesting that once you reach a certain level of experience you stop asking for and listening to any advice?

I wouldn't be asking this question here. I'd be talking to north about my requirements and hearing what they thought would be the best option since I had already chosen them as a supplier.

Thanks for the respond.

The two options of sails have been provided by Northsails.
Self-tacking is dis-mountable, hence not an issue during racing.

As for experience, have been around and on the podium, par example Fastnet , but yet, the question always remains in once head.

Other unfamiliar with "...surely not the objective of the OP?" and comment does not strike me, Xc50 would do it. At least better then the Far "Flyer 1" back in the days.
