Which raw water pump for Volvo MD2020?

I need to replace the pump on my MD2020C because the shaft is too worn at the seal and leaks with a new seal. I do not have the skill to replace the shaft myself and I image that it would be less expensive to replace the pump than to pay an engineer to refurbish the pump.

The Volvo branded pump costs £328 plus delivery from Keypart.

I am considering fitting another Jabsco 19MM BRZ 10 FLANGE Ref 29350-1101 at £249 delivered. Are there any alternatives?

Is there a non-Volvo-branded Johnson pump that fits?

Mine is a 2030 but unless youe engine pump is very different, I dont think you have an alterantive to the Volvo one because of the way it fits into the block.

Why not get a shaft machined up at a local engineers?

I think you are stuck with the VP pump due to the gear drive. Standard Jabsco is I think peg drive. I had the repair kit fitted by Volvspec, They charged !/2 hr labour. I took off and refitted the pump. They stripped it and fitted new parts. Repair kit £170 Keyparts.

Do the engineers weld metal onto the shaft before machining the shaft? Is this less expensive than a new shaft?

1/2 hour labour is amazingly low! Thanks for the link which is very clear and makes me think I could maybe have a go myself.

I'm guessing the above details are from the Jabsco Cleghorn site. Surely that pump will fit the MD2020.

See that it states that the shaft is out of stock, but its worth giving them a call, I bought stuff from listed as being out of stock, and it was delivered within about 2 weeks.
These pumps are very easy to strip down and rebuild

Thanks for the encouragement - I think I may give it a go now that I have seen in the link given by Stork III that I can use a vice to press the bearings onto the shaft.
