I have to buy a new phone. One that dosent cost so much that to loose it overboard would mean a second morgage to replace.

Each contry needs another SIM card not pay roaming. So no free with contract phone.

Looking and looking found an Erricson K600i a new 3G phone with very bad sound bad phone the V600i has better buttons costs £20 more then basic 600i which costs £150 to buy.

Next the Nokia 6230 seemed alright(£100) but like all Nokias cheapend to far the Bluetooths only that in name! It dosent actualy work the cameras minimal and the screen 128 pixels only almost unreadable!!! Amazing Standardisation????

Now ive found the Samsung D500 which has been on the market for years?? and replaced by the D800, but has 80megs memory 1.3 meg camera a BT that works!! IR and its small with a battery that lasts for days. (£150)

Whats wrong with it???

The nokia 6230 costs £100

The Sony erricson K600i and Samsung D500 cost £150 the first is a very medioka 3G with 2 hour battery life in 3G configeration (costs the same per meg as GPRS so costs more as it uses more mega more quickly!!)

The Samsung D50 is just 2G with GPRS etc.

Which should i buy??

Is there anyway to find out if the Bluetooth provided by the phone will be compatable with my super Dell X30 which having seen and used HP Palm of the same age is by far the best on the market.

(Palm has now made a model with mini HHD wi-lan and BT for only £280!!!!!!! Dell have also brought out a new model but for the moment Palm are winning on the PDA front!)
Im waiting another year as my Dell an X30 withe wi-fi BT and 624 processor is still very very current!!

But which phone provides a BT connection that works with modern equipment??Or dose nokia just prevent us useing add ons? or is it just a cheapskate phone??

Advise please on Bluetooth that i can use my PDA with my phone as a GPRS modem??

Is there anyone that knows about these things??

Ive been looking at reveiws hears just one site

I can only say : Nokia is the very best !

Re: Which phone is best when sailing between contrys with different p

Yes Nokias very good but for my needs just wrong?? The 7210s for girls changing dress and shoe sizes!!

I need a multimedia phone Nokias very good indeed as a stand alone to down load email etc but i want to use it alone AND with a PDA.

I also like a good camera as carrying a phone and camera in summer isent always possiable when shopping for instance, then you see something you want to photgraph!
The Nokias mostly sub vga becouse the busness dosent want cameras so Nokia pleases no one! Not busness nor particular.

Sonys Erricsons not perfect it hasent got memory! If i dont buy the Samsung the nokia 6230 is very good value for the price and a good phone!!!! Just the BT thats annoying

The camera quality of lack of it i could live with as i have a 4meg very small camera!

And Finnlands great but a bit rocky??I wonder why you dont clear the rocks to have safer sailing?

Should i buy the Nokia 6230 for just £100 and if so will the BT have a download to make it compatable with my Dell??

Or the Samsung D500 for just £150 or 50% more!! is it worth that to have it rather than the excelent Nokia (but with bad camera and doubtful BT) ???

I have just bought an SPC M3000 which is, as far as I can see so far, fantastic. It is sold under various names Qtek 9100, i-Mate k-Jam but it's the same machine. Bluetooth, WIFI, IR, cable connections, Windows Mobile 5 OS, (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Access) Slide out keyboard and transcriber for (normal) handwriting recognition; Mini SD memory extensions to 1 GO, camera 1.3 m-pixels with flash; video with sound, MP3. I shall probably add a folding PDA keyboard so that I can write the things I need to and then upload to the laptop for editing. I have downloaded some large Excel and Word files for reference; for non-intensive work this is fine. There is also I believe a GPS option. All in 160 grms. I'm still discovering the possibilities as I only got it yesterday.

And you can telephone.... I'm not sure though that I addressed your point.

Yes! I know it well i saw their first model more than a year ago and loved it! but its out of my price justification, i dont say range becouse i want a phone and PDA

Last summer someone with a Qtek and i with my Dell WI-LAN PDA were looking for the WI-LAN signal the port capitan assured us was there!! Neither of us found it as the third party supplier or the wi-lan hadent finnished installing it!!

I thought the Qtek interesting as is the erricson 910i but again i cant afford one and my PDA which is faster when connected by wi-fi I thought another GPRS BT telephone as the telephone can live in a backpack while i use my PDA

Where i loose out is to your key pad when you want to SMS!!

I have a Nokia 6230i and the Bluetooth works perfectly both with the car handsfree and my laptop.

Finland is basically one big rock with a few boken off bits around the edges. Deepest bed-rock in the world after the Himalayas /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
That's why everyone wants to ship their nuclear waste here, 'cos it's safer (yeah, right, for who?!).
Mind you, having the world's nuclear waste buried here could make it a bit warmer, it was -19C this morning !!! but the sun is shining /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Heh heh, this is totally off-thread! Must be Friday and the weekend's coming fast /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

As for Nokia phones... as I said in a previous thread, I'm a bit biased...

BTW did you know that NOKIA and ERICSSON are the ONLY Finnish companies aside from a reindeer breeder just outside Tampera.
