Had some of my steel shotblasted, zinc sprayed, and three coats of paint. What shall I use on the rest, some has been shotblasted, zinc sprayed and primed, some not treated yet. Been using Ronseal one coat metal paint on top of Fertan plus Rust Bullet, or Galvafroid, or both, any other recommendations?

Edit, 'Bullet', not 'Beater'

Well, on Stavros we use Jotun. Many coats of Jotamastic primer, then a Jotun topcoat whose name I forget. Preparation performed with a chipping hammer, plus some cursory wire-brushing with an anglegrinder if it's very lucky. Possibly a wash with metalbrite then rinsed off. All work performed by non-experts while at sea, and yet despite all these non-ideal factors the ship hasn't fallen apart yet :)

Definatly use two pack epoxy top coats, as used on bridges, battle ships etc.
The big advantage is that the paint never flakes off, it just gets thinner and thinner over the years. Should last at least 10 years no prob.

Cheapest and best is international commercial paint range, but it's only available in 20 ltr barrels. Prob. Cheaper than 5ltrs yottie paint.

They also supply a zinc rich primer undercoat, no so good IMO.

I've been using ameron for a while now. Seems great but nothing really to compare it with so hard to tell. Apart from por15. Which was not great. The ameron sealer is great for when you can't sandblast, takes ages to go off and soaks right in. Think they got bought out recently, ppg maybe.
