Engines need a service before the season starts, need 40 litres of oil and 40 litres of antifreeze.

Volvo VDS 4.5 £365, Mannol VDS 4.5 £116 for 20l

Volvo antifreeze £230, Mannol £74

Total, Volvo £595 Mannol £190

Decisions, decisions............

I know what it is ... my post was more for others actually ... adding to yours.

I know Mannoil ... lets leave it that ...

I've been using Mannoil 5w 30 full synthetic in three different petrol and diesel cars for a while with no concerns at all.

Genuine question then just in case - what do you know that I don't?

Now that's a question I have to say no to ... and I am not implying its bad ...

But will say this ... there are various brands out there that sit in the good to use bracket. They do not carry the names such as Mobil .. Shell ... BP etc. but are good to use. They may not have one or two of additional additives of say Shell etc. but that's not a bad thing. Mannol sits basically in that group.

I don't buy Shell / BP / Mobil ... but the brand I do buy is not available in UK or general EU - so its no use me naming it.

I alway make sure I use the right grade oil, but not necessarily the most expensive, but I do change the oil very regularly. On my keeper cars every 2k miles, on my boat every year (100 odd hours) and on my main daily driver every 5k miles

Oil is cheap, engines are expensive, so far so good 🤞🤞🤞.

Antifreeze, get a antifreeze hydrometer and use it.

I have a VP TAMD41P and so a similar dilemma (only one engine though!l). I use non-VP oil as it is relatively easy to find a brand that meets the appropriate VDS spec. However, although any antifreeze that stays liquid down to -20 could be used, I have not been able to find the spec for the VP corrosion inhibitors in their coolant so will not take the risk and use the VP coolant.

If you change oil more frequently - you can in fact use the cheapo oils ... they have to satisfy Test specifications .. but the matter is lifespan of the oil ... change it often enough and even the cheapest Supermarket oil is good enough.

The matter of cheap oils - is that they are cheap based on the amount of reconstituted oil used with additives to pep up the specs etc.
