Which medicine for my cold?

I am sitting here with my head attempting to emulate the explosive force of a Tsunami; the nurofen isn't working. HWMBO is upstairs nursing very successfully his poorly gouty foot, while I have had to make breakfast, walk the dogs, go shopping, make dinner and some more bread.
And on top of that, he is very sniffy about my choice of whiskys.

So, I throw myself (metaphorically speaking) on the expertise and knowledge of the forum.

I have blocked sinuses, a streaming cold, and a very sore nose. I also ache all over can't get comfortable sitting down.

BUT, in my medicine cabinet I have the following remedies;-
1) A Bowmore '72 whisky, matured in sherry casks
2) A Glenfarclas cask-strenght (which I can actually taste but hurts a bit)
3)A Scapa '83 which hasn't yet been opened
4)A St Magdalen '65 which is unique as the distillery has long since vanished
5) A Caol Ila '74, also unopened

Now I don't want to open unsuitable medicines; and I probably can't take too much of any of them, especially 2)
I have tried 1) and that hasn't helped very much.
So what is a poorly girl to do?

Seriously:

Echinacea - doens't really matter which form - double the recommended dose on the first hit, then recommended after that. Also Paracetamol if your nose is running, ibrupofen if it's blocked.

Drinks - daytime: honey and lemon in boiling water, followed by sucking a fisherman's friend [no jokes]. Steam with olbas oil as well. Late night toddy, Hot honey and brandy.

As someone with seriously defunct sinuses these remedies have a lot of painful experience behind them.

I should have mentioned that a few years ago we had a thing in this country called the Cold Research Laboratory, and having spent millions of tax-payers money, it was finally wound up having discovered very little. But, the very little that was discovered came to light when the Director was interviewed on TV. Following the obvious questio- What would you take for a cold, thesaid expert suggested a hot whisky and lemon. I was saving that bit for later. Julie's idea of some of all of them probably would mean that for me there wouldn't be a later; at least not one I could do anything about.
Anyway, what is the significance of dating whisky bottles, and is there a good year I should look out for? Surely some of you hairy N of the border peeps could advise?
Going back for another lie down until the dogs are hungry..

Take yourself off into a steaming hot tub with bottle number 2. Put in some of that mental smelly stuff, in the bath that is, and sit in the tub until you feel better.
You can always keep topping up the water to keep warm.
H & S warning. Be carefull you dont slip under the water with too much incohol. But that would also cure the cold. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Hope you feel better soon - paracetamol are pretty good for the resultant hangover.

Strong dose of garlic tablets and vitamin C (1000mg of each taken before food twice a day) and keep taking the hot toddies, and you will soon feel a lot better.
I used to find that a good glass of Laphroig would keep a lot of things at bay /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Sympathise with you.
I have had similar symptoms plus a throat so swollen that swallowing and talking is difficult and painful, had them all since Christmas eve. Missed out on all the fun and a christmas sail.
Grumpy old fart takes on a whole new meaning

For me double dosing on Ibuprofen ( bought a bottle of 1000 last time is was in the States for $5), hot lemon and the odd whisky makes life tolerable, but I am getting fed up with the coughing.
No doubt I shall be back to normal by Tuesday when its time to go back to work

IMHO, freshly squeezed citrus fruit juice (or just eat the fruit) as it provide a more effective boost of Vit C than any tablets. Worked for me for the past several 'cold free' years. You'll then be able to taste the good Scotch! Get well soon!

under no circumstances should you touch the bowmore. send it to me and i will dispose f it hygenically.

the big problem with a cold is that you can't taste the finer malts. take a bottle of cheap blended and a candle, retire to bed and place the lighted candle on the bedside table, drink the whisky until you can see three candles then snuff out the middle one and go to sleep.

You feel better with the alcohol - or just numb!!!

Why would you want to avoid sex. That will help sweat, sorry ladies glow, out the cold.

Try a good measure of Lamb's Navy Rum in Ovaltine. Tastes SO vile that the germs try someone else. Don't all medicenes have to taste horrible? That's why whisky and lemon don't work with really BAD colds IMHO.
