er, us ! impossible to do LIBS and then open for Dusseldorf on Saturday and still one day of LIBS to go, seems crazy to have two shows over lapping

That was my point in a previous thread. Many years ago LIBS used to start on 2nd or 3rd Jan but this was changed to 1 week later solely for the convenience of exhibitors as I understand it. IMHO that's a missed oppurtunity because so many potential visitors are not working during this period and school kids are on holiday. It seems madness to hold an exhibition starting this week when for sure everybody has gone back to work and the kids have gone back to school.
Then the overlap with Boot is just crazy. I don't know what the LIBS organisers are trying to prove. Maybe it's a macho thing as in not wanting to be seen to give way to the Germans but the decline in exhibitor numbers and, probably, visitor numbers shows how stupid this stance is
Btw, is stand space cheaper at LIBS or Boot? I take it you one of the exhibitors who have shunned LIBS in favour of Boot?

Re: Which manufacturers aren\'t at LIBS?

OF, I agree with you. Some of the bigger stands at LIBS will have cost maybe £300-400k to stage and that has to be recouped in sales. But stand space would have been booked and paid for early in 2008 before the economy really crashed so some exhibitors will have already budgeted for the cost. It's LIBS 2010 which will really suffer as exhibitors will have to make a decision in just a couple of months time whether to attend and my guess is that some won't although the organisers may heavily discount the space to keep the bigger players there

Re: Which manufacturers aren\'t at LIBS?

Agree with all that ! :-)

Yes we took a decision early on not to do LIBS because of the clash with Dusseldorf which is a better show for us anyway. We get five boats at Dusseldorf for the price of three at LIBS.

LIBS and SIBS are the two of the most expensive shows , whether that continues I guess will be decided by the builders as they count their pennies and try stretching them a bit further to get best value for money.

Re: Which manufacturers aren\'t at LIBS?

Dusseldorf is more then double to London

London has 120.000+ Southampton the same
Dusseldorf 280.000+
Genoa 330.000, they had 8% reduction in 2008 ar 307.000
I thought London has about 60/70.000
Cannes which is a splendid show has 60.000 but it stay on for only 5 days

this all 2008/7 data

you can look it here http://www.ifbso.com/showvis.asp

That is entirely typical of UK exhibitions. In my industry somebody is trying to get a UK exhibition off the ground but the stand space cost is higher than the most established global exhibition which happens to be in Germany. Which one are exhibitors likely to attend? A naff UK exhibition with uncertain visitor numbers and higher cost or the best exhibition in the world with guaranteed high visitor numbers and lower cost. Doh!

Re: Which manufacturers aren\'t at LIBS?

PY, interesting. So in terms of visitor numbers Boot is about 2 1/2 times bigger than LIBS. It certainly is at least that much bigger in terms of floor space as well

Re: Which manufacturers aren\'t at LIBS?

Guess it is a different attitude to exhibitions between UK and rest of Euroland, exhibitions tend to seen here as profit making machines (whether that be to bolster revenues for the overseeing organisation or run by a private entity which is totally profit orientated) rather than an investment in a particular industry for its future wellbeing.

Makes no sense to me to try and maximise revenues and push the cost m2 to the limit rather than an attitude of how do we make it as economical as possible to attract the maximum number of exhibitors. The more exhibitors the more appealing it is to the visitor and attendance levels by the public, the more punters turn up the more exhibitors want to be there and therefore greater sustainability of the exhibition.

Re: Which manufacturers aren\'t at LIBS?

Hi Jim, No Cobalt this year. I thought the main power hall looked a bit sad. Loads of free space, great! if you wanted to buy a Jacuzzi or patio furniture there was even space for a bouncy castle type surf boarding thingy. Still enjoyed it though.

As has already been pointed out, LIBS does look particularly empty this year but who is missing that are usually there? I can think of the following

Sealine
Searay
Grand Banks
Monterey
Grady White

Any more?

Re: Which manufacturers aren\'t at LIBS?

Thanks Andy, I hadn't seen them advertising, in fact I have heard very little from the new dealership Cobalt Boats UK.

I see the V45 has been named as boat of the year, you made a good choice.

Re: Which manufacturers aren\'t at LIBS?

Cheers Jim, having been on most of the V45s competition I still think that when you take everything into account especially cost the V45 takes some beating. Windy 44 is nice but £180k more than I paid for a similar speced boat, Sessa C43 £100k more and smaller. I do like the new V42 though.

My apologies..........but I'd heard that Offshore Powerboats, (UK Nimbus dealer), weren't exhibiting at LIBS this year.......obviously, mis-information!

Cheers, Allan
