I want to buy a couple of adult size self inflating life jackets and one for my seven year old son.
After a few searches it seems that prices vary quite a lot.
Which make should i be looking for and what are the differences between the cheaper and more costly makes.
I assume they all have to be up to British Safety Standard and are therefore all pretty much similar in spec?
 
You'll find there are quite a few posts on jackets.

We bought a couple of new ones lately after spending time trying them on and decided that a major factor was how they felt when you wear them. If they're comfortable, fit well and dare I say it, look good, chances are you will wear them, which is the biggest safety factor!

We bought Baltic Ultimates, but we also have Crewsaver 150N Auto's on the boat which we also wear. Both types have straps that run between the legs to stop them riding up, lights and spray hoods.

It may be our rag and stick backgrounds but we prefer jackets with a harness.

A couple of folks on here have done training climbing into a life raft while wearing a jacket. We're thinking of doing that as they all seemed to recommend it.
 
Yes, I didn't think that they would be that different when worn but I will try some out.
Its just i took a look at Ebay after visiting a shop yesterday and saw the price differences.
I will check out the other posts on jackets, thank you.

Well, we've always got on well with the Parmaris range and so have a few others that I know, including the legendary Gludy who had about ten of them.

Hi,
well they have ones for toddlers and younger that also strap threw the legs up to the cheast but brand doesn't matter as long as they fit them properly and there is room to grow but spending extra money is a good thing dont go for cheap and most will have weight guide lines follow these to the T because if your child is to light it could cause them to roll and be face down. if you pre shop online you`ll be able to read customer reveiws as well!

Back in the mists of time one of the boat mags (MBM?)did a comparo of popular jackets including dumping the unlucky journos in the oggin and finding out which turned you upright and which rubbed like billyo......got to be a back issue out there somewhere

I found Seago good value, bascially have Seago and XM for visitors and Crewsaver for me and the wife, no reason for this just bought at different times. All feel comfortable.
