I am considering changing the paper element air filters on my engines for K&N's. Does anyone know what equivalent K&N air filters would fit Volvo Penta KAMD42A's?

Well they are buy once items, that you then just clean and re-oil each service, so saving around £50 a time for two engines. I'm lead to believe they are supposed to give better air-flow too, but that isn't the main reason for considering them for me.

Hi

The air filter you use is the same as the one I use in my KAD32's, the K&N part number is 33-2538. However as already mentioned why? The last price I paid for my air filters - Champion part number was £11 for 2 of them.

Thanks for that Peanuts! K&N customer services have just come back to me with the same part number. As to why, well online the K&N's are not much more than the Volvo ones and obviously only have to be bought once. Did I realise there were even cheaper Champion ones available? No :o Even so, though, in 3 years they would have cost me the same as the K&N's.

In general airfilters are much more needed on the road (dust & dirt) than on the water. KN are recommenden when vehicles run off road or otherwise where standard filters aren't sufficient. Easy to clean a KN eg. while crossing the Red Centre downunder..

Do not expect any gain in performance or mpg. If these filters had any properties in that respect they'd be OEM on every car, bus, truck, boat etc. - and they are not. Go figure :)

Ofcourse the price etc. is an argument.
