This year I want to visit (sailing) the east coast. I'am from Holland.

Looking at the imray site I see two types of (detail) charts: the Y(16/17/18) charts and the 2000 series charts.
Of course I also need some C-charts.

Besides the format I can't see the difference between these 2 types of charts.

Can anyone tell which type of chart to buy (Y or 2000 serie) and why ?

Thanks,
John

As I understand it, Y-series charts are just physically smaller than C-series charts covering a smaller area. The 2000 series charts are meant to be part of a pack competing with the Admiralty Small Craft Folios, but Imray will sell then separately.

I have to admit that my personal preference is for Admiralty charts, but I frequently go for C-Series charts because they cover an equivalent area to a number of Admiralty charts. It's a matter of balancing cost against coverage and detail.

If you're going to explore a particular area pretty thoroughly, so use much of the set, it would be worth looking at the Admiralty small craft folios. The cover as far north as Berwick these days. If you're just going to touch on an area they cover, Imray charts often cost less all told than a number of individual Admiralty charts.
