Which Icom Radio?

I am trying to decide between the old IC-M421 and the new(more expensive) IC-M505 for mounting by the chart table. I do not need extreme waterproofing, second station or a loud hailer. Should I save money and buy the 421? ie is the 505 a just a 421 with a few extra facilities or is it a better radio? Experience and expert advice from forumites appreciated.

Can't comment on the differences between two models as I have a 601. I rate Icom hugely and fitted a command mic in my cockpit. Now I would now never be without it. I would imagine that both sets will be very good in terms of quality. 50 quid off a 421 here

Just bought a 421 and a Garmin GPS from JG Technologies. Free next day delivery. Excellent service. No hidden charges!
 
if you don't need 2nd station etc, then i am sure that the 421 would be ideal for you, i have recently bought the 505 as i prefer the 2nd station with dsc compatability, and the loud hailer/auto foghorn looks interesting.
It would save you £50 or more depends on where you get it from.
So more pressies for the boat...
