Interesting point there. I was in Cape Cod , MA this summer and visited a number of chandlers. Sure the electronice might be cheaper but there is a whole lot of other stuff which is horribly more expensive. Boats included. They build Beneteaus there and as far as I could see, they cost about 30% more than here in UK. Wine is also much more expensive. It's basically swings and roundabouts with no big difference overall.

The M31 is the new radio from us.
Think I may get jumped on if I start talking price's here.
But you should pay well under £150 inc.

Have a look on our website for the spec.

I got a Silva at the start of this year. I've found that it gets more use than the main fixed set now. good as new, no problems what so ever despite some rough treatment including getting large dollop of the wet stuff. Good and bad from every manufacturer I guess. Mike.

Like you said - there's good and bad everywhere.

I got mine about the same time you got yours I guess. I've had a "funny feeling" about mine from the day I got it. At the time it was all I could afford.
Like I said before - TX button sticks most of the time, and won't be unstuck. And then the rust... when I took it back to the chandler where I bought it I got: "Well, what do you expect? If you're going to abuse it by exposing it to salt water!" WTF!!!! (excuse my language) It's for use on a yacht for God's sake!

A friend of mine bought fixed Silva DSC combined with Navtex thingie - at the time the Navtex antenna was not available yet, but would be forwared "soon". Eight months on, he's still waiting.

All in all, it does not leave me with a favorable opinion of Silva - that's all I'm saying.

At the Boat Show I'll take a look at the Icom, and I'll also take a look at the Simrad HT50. A bit pricier that the Icom; but I've got some other Simrad gear fitted, and it has never let me down. In the end I think we all tend to stick with what we know & trust.

If you're going to the show, why don't you bring your handheld to the Silva stand and speak to them about your problems. I'm sure that they'll do whatever they can to help

I am using the Simrad HD52 (the DSC Version of the HT50). Absolutely great piece of hardware, although it is one of the most expensive. (I dont own Simrad shares!)
