Which grease do you use when lubricating your sea cocks ? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I'm servicing the toilet on my boat next week and being new to sailing don't know whether I should use a specific product. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

The very best make IMHO, and one we've used for 26 years, is Blakes Seacock Grease. A small (quite expensive tub) lasts for years and the grease does not harden in water like some of the 'water-resistant' types do. It stays in place for at least a season and makes servicing the seacocks a doddle when laying up.

I've got no association with the company, but this really is a darn good product, that we also use on a multitude of other things, e.g. windlass, outboard motor bolts, VP shaft seal etc etc.

Cheers

Yes Blakes seacock grease is the best but expensive. I was given an equivalent by a marine engineer that is green in colour and appears to be stringy when used (Don't know the name). That was after I had used keenol and could not get the seacock to seal.

I plan to regrease the inlet + outlet seacocks and am going to replace both pipes.

The manual pump appears to be working ok so I'm leaving that alone.

As long as you hav the hoses off, flush the salt out of it and grease the toilet pump too... some lubrication extends the lives of the rubber bits. The recommended grease is synthetic (non-petroleum) teflon...however, unless it gets "gooey" in water, the same grease you plan to use for your seacocks should work ok.
